i was admitted to the hospital for 2 days because of this flu. i still feel the pain of the needles on my right hand where they put the dextrose. for two consecutive days i was just lying in bed waiting for the nurses to check my temperature. its pretty boring actually. and i think until now i dont have my sense of smell. not sure why. anyhow, im back at home and i feel much better now. maybe i need a couple of days more to have some rest before i go to work.

500 days of summer

500days

Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn’t.
i was browsing the fox searchlight website for some fresh indie films. and i found this new film 500 days of summer the trailer remind me Garden State specially the first part when Summer ( Zoey Deschanel) and Thomas (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) met on the elevator with thom listening to the smiths and Summer said "I love The Smiths..., I said I love The Smiths. That reminds me when natalie portman hands his headphone to zach braff and said "listen to the shins, it will change your life." im the shins and smith fan. For me that scene on the elevator was the catch of this film. it got my interest right there and then. I mean how many guys ever dream of meeting someone and start a conversation just because your listening to some music like the smiths or any non mainstream music. I remember one time i was just sitting on the couch on the lobby in our office and this half japanese girl sit beside me wearing some earphones, so i said hi, and ask what shes listening to? then she replied, nah, just some As I Lay Dying stuff. WTF!? i said to myself, thats just the start of a wonderful conversation talking about metal bands, and before we say goodbye we end up giving each others phone number and thats just the begining.

well more about this film, its a story of a boy meets girl but its not a love story, according to the narrator. hehe. and its a official selection on this years sundance festival. as i can see it on the trailer its a quirky romantic comedy, and based on some comments on imdb who saw this film on sundance its a great film.

only downside is, it will be released on theaters on july, and thats a long wait. and we're not sure if it will reach our shores, buts not really a big deal for me since we have torrent engines here. hopefully someone will leak a screener copy of this film in those torrent sites. if you found one send me the link. haha!

qoutes on this trailer:
I love The Smiths..., I said I love The Smiths
They use call me anal girl. I was very neat and quirky. (lol)
It was love, not Santa Claus
I think im Sid Vicious, no im Sid. Oh, so Im Nancy. (haha)

oh by the way another foxsearchlight im looking forward to is postgrad. hehe

macro shot using Blown Up2

got this plug in for photoshop to make your macro shot better without having a macrolens. (am i making any sense? lol) just want to share this program to you guys. it called Blown Up2 by alienware. its a cool program.

they're about the same size, i think theres a little noise but manageable of course im just lazy to tweak some settings on photoshop. but the thing here is you can make a pretty decent macro shot using this program.

i know i can come up with a better sample but most of my files is on my maxtor and i dont have it right now. this shot was taken in one of our photo ops. trekking some unknown mountain in batangas.

battle of alangilan

i was invited to be one of the panel of judges in the recent battle of the bands held in alangilan batangas city. its quite an honor for me to be placed in that position. i mean its my first time and its quite an experience. as a band member we only joined this type of contest once and its a school event during college days, and we were disqualified because we didnt played the contest piece for the reason that we didnt like the song. and we hate band competition. the rest is history.

im sharing some photos of me receiving the plaque of appreciation.

Gorman/Holbert B&W conversion

Greg Gorman (1949 - ) is an American portrait photographer of Hollywood celebrities. His work has been seen in magazine features and covers. These include Esquire, GQ, Interview, Life, Vogue, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Time, Vanity Fair, and the London Sunday Times.[1] Although he studied photojournalism in college, his passion for rock and roll led him to his chosen field when he photographed Jimi Hendrix in 1968.[2] John Waters once said "Greg Gorman is the only person I’d let photograph my corpse" He primarily works in black and white.

He has also directed music videos, television advertisements, and graphic design layouts for advertisers. - from wikepedia

if you think converting your photos to black in white is just one click on your photo editing software, well it might be true. but in order for us to achieve the desired monochromatic image we need to add some tonality in our grayscaled image. i tried creating my own workflow for my adobe photoshop and lightroom about creating a nice black and white photo. and with continuous research ive found some tips on how to achieved that nice monochrome image. i found this workflow by gorman and holbert B&W conversion on gorman's website. the instructions seem so hard to follow and it took me around 1 hour to decypher some of his instruction. hehe. anyhow im sharing this workflow. its on .pdf format. my friend kenneth still looking for the option button his photoshop. haha! all i can say is "im not going to share my created action in photoshop" haha!

so if you love black and white photos, you may try experementing on this workflow. download it here

song of the night

love relationship is almost the same as opium: it slowly puts you to sleep, it soothes you, and gives you the illusion of sureness and security, -bill corgan

this song is SOMA from smashing pumpkins album Siamese dreams released in 1993.

i dig into some of my mp3 collection today. and i decided to listen to some early 90's music, grunge and alternative music. i came across with soma by the Smashing pumpkins and got stuck with it. i think i almost listen to it more than a hundred times tonight. and watched the live version on youtube i dont know how many times. guitar was awesome. billy corgans voice was emotional the live version was 100 times better.

SOMA

Nothing left to say
And all Ive left to do
Is run away
From you
And she led me up, down
With secrets I cant keep
Close your eyes and sleep
Dont wait up for me
Hush now dont you speak
To me
Wrap my hurt in you
And took my shelter in that pain
The opiate of blame
Is you broken heart, your heart
So now Im all by myself
As Ive always felt
Ill betray my tears
To anyone caught in our ruse of fools
One last kiss for me...yeah
One last kiss good night
Didnt want to lose you once again
Didnt want to be your friend
Fulfill a promise made of tears
And crawled back to you
Now Im all by myself
As Ive always felt
And Ill betray myself
To anyone, anyone but you
So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me
Until the bitter, bitter end
When good sleeps in bliss
And Im all by myself
As Ive always felt
And Ill betray myself
To anyone

another great record from moscow olympics

after several days of looking for moscow olympics and my morning paper split 7" finally i found one. this is just a two song released by a label from UK Lostmusic Records, there are on 300 copies available. this is a follow up from the critically acclaimed cut the world ep, which gains reputation and considered as one of the best releases of 2008 by an indie band.

what i admired about this band, inspite of their success and gaining recognitions from people around the world they maintain a low profile of themselves. i found this small interview about them talking about being a small indie band here in the philippines-

"A lot of bands crave for the fame that comes with making good music, but Moscow Olympics have chosen to lay low. “We've always wanted to keep a low profile and we're perfectly happy staying as a small band. Aside from the fact that we don't really have the time and means nor the desire to promote extensively, we all have day jobs and consider the band as a fun hobby,” they reveal. The band adds, “While we enjoy playing live occasionally, constant gigging is not something we necessarily love. We just like getting together and hanging out as friends, listening to records and making music. We were just really happy about having been released at all and could only hope that a few people like the songs. The good reviews from blogs like The Yellow Stereo were an added bonus and it totally blew our minds.” - from junkonline.net

and so im sharing this music to you: download here

is this the end for themorningafter?

its always sad when someone close to me needs to leave and go abroad for greener pasture. i don't know whose to blame, is it the government, ourselves or this greedy capitalist who take advantage of our system. or maybe we are born on this third world country and we cant do anything about but to accept the fact that our role in this world is to be come a slave of other countries. i know its hard to be away from your family, friends and loved one, but we need to sacrifice all of this for a better future. but i guess that life and we need t face it.

macky our drummer texted me last night said his leaving today to work abroad. it was unexpected, and it happened too fast. we just had a band rehearsal 2 weeks ago and wrote 2 new songs not knowing that would our last rehearsal with him. i texted eman and onin right away to inform them about the issue. last text i receive from mack was "pare, ako pa rin drummer ng themorningafter." well you're always be our drummer, man.

we haven't talked about the future plans for the band yet. but im still hopeful that we will continue what we've started, probably look for drummer who can do sessions for us.

is this the end for us? or just a new beginning?

we wish you luck, the band will miss you.

themorningafter - nostalgia

after several months of being in hiatus
we decided to get together and play some music again.
the members have their own day jobs,
working on different schedules and location. (manila and batangas)
but this will not stop us from our passion for music
went to the studio to practice some old and new songs.
the two new songs went pretty good,
its like post-rock meets shoegaze.
hopefully time will be kind to us,
so we can practice again next week
and start playing some gigs again.

for more photos you can visit my multiply.
thanks to shuttercore for the photos
